Amber Guyger, the former Dallas police officer who fatally shot an unarmed neighbor after mistakenly entering his apartment in 2018, was released from a Texas prison on parole Friday. Guyger, 38, served seven years of the 10-year sentence handed down in October 2019 for the murder of Botham Jean, 26.
She left the Christina Melton Crain Unit in Gatesville on Friday. She will spend the rest of her sentence in the community, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice said. Jean’s loved ones were unhappy with Guyger’s early release but their greater sorrow stemmed from the 10-year sentence, family attorney Lee Merritt said Friday.
“We were opposed to her early release because we wanted her to at least do a maximum amount of time, the full 100%,” he said. “But we realized that that was not always something that we were not guaranteed so it’s frustrating. But for the family, the frustration came at the point where she was sentenced to (just) 10 years, not just the release today.”
Suprised that this story hasn't gotten more traction or "outrage" in the black, liberal media space. As this some real racist shit what with the punishment certainly failing to meet the crime. After all, the kind of racist psychosis that allows a white female police officer to shoot and kill an unarmed Black man in his own home, simply because she mistakenly believes she has entered her own apartment, is unnerving, chilling and goes back centuries. Yet, in 2026 the black liberal crowd only seem to sound off on racism when it fits a narrative or when it suits their ego, political agende or pockets. To think, Botham Jean was eating ice cream in the safety of his Dallas home when Guyger took his life, yet she received a mere 10-year prison sentence and was released on parole after serving only seven years. Indeed, her early release not only deepens the pain of a family that has already lost everything, but when a Black man's life can be taken in his own home and the consequences seem so limited, it sends a devastating message about whose lives this system and the groupthink that loves to pretend that they give a f-ck, truly values.
