Supreme Court Rejects Alex Jones’ Appeal of $1.4 Billion Defamation Judgment in Sandy Hook Shooting

The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected an appeal from conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and left in place the $1.4 billion judgment against him over his description of the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting as a hoax staged by crisis actors.

The Infowars host had argued that a judge was wrong to find him liable for defamation and infliction of emotional distress without holding a trial on the merits of allegations lodged by relatives of victims of the shooting, which killed 20 first graders and six educators in Newtown, Connecticut.

The justices did not comment on their order, which they issued without even asking the families of the Sandy Hook victims to respond to Jones’ appeal. An FBI agent who responded to the shooting also sued. A lawyer who represents Sandy Hook families said the Supreme Court had properly rejected Jones’ “latest desperate attempt to avoid accountability for the harm he has caused.”

Jones never got a trial, and the judgment against him is ridiculously excessive, but it’s hard to feel much sympathy when he’s been such a habitual scumbag over the years.

ABC Suspends Jimmy Kimmel’s Late-Night Show 'Indefinitely' Over Charlie Kirk Lies

ABC on Wednesday pulled “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” off the air “indefinitely” over its host’s controversial comments linking the alleged killer of conservative activist Charlie Kirk to President Donald Trump’s MAGA movement. 

 

Trump praised the move, which came hours after Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr suggested that ABC’s broadcast license was at risk because of Kimmel’s remarks. ABC is a subsidiary of Disney. 

 

Just before ABC’s announcement, Nexstar Media Group said that its stations that are affiliated with ABC would preempt Kimmel’s show “for the foreseeable future beginning with tonight’s show” because of the host’s statements. Nexstar is seeking FCC approval for its planned $6.2 billion merger with Tegna.
