Repeat Female Felon Charged in Broad-Daylight Fatal Stabbing of 7-Year-Old in Chicago

NBCChicago.com:

More details could be revealed Monday as the Chicago woman charged with first-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of a 7-year-old girl in the city's East Chatham neighborhood makes her first court appearance. Shavon Gayden, 48, was taken into custody minutes after the stabbing Saturday morning along South Cottage Grove Avenue near East 86th Street. According to officials, Gayden is expected to appear in court at noon.

According to police, the girl was walking down the sidewalk on South Cottage Grove Avenue about 11:55 a.m. Saturday when a woman she did not know approached and stabbed multiple times in the back. The girl was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Surveillance video obtained by NBC Chicago showed witnesses rushing over to what is believed to be the area where the young girl was attacked. Several witnesses could also be seen chasing the suspect after the attack. Police said the bystanders detained the woman, and she was later taken into custody after receiving treatment at a local hospital for injuries she sustained while being detained.

According to many Black liberals, 'white supremacy' remains the greatest threat to the Black community. That's even tho 90% of crimes against Blacks are by other Black people. In this case, the alleged perp Shavon Gayden had a long history of violent asaluts, but was on probation despite having an active femony warrant for her arrest for well over a year. Gayden's own family had long raised concerns over her mental health, but nothing wa done and you won't be seeing Ben Crump ot Al Sharpton cry out about this because when it comes to black-on-black crime, there's no money tp made there. Also, despite a city run by one party fpr almost a century and a mother losing her 7-year-old girl and crying out for justice, Chicagoans will continue to elect soft-on-crime Democrat leadership anyway.

Sean Grayson, Ex-Cop Convicted of Killing Sonya Massey, Dies 6 Months Into His Sentence

NYPost.com:

Sean Grayson, the ex-Illinois sheriff’s deputy who was sentenced to two decades in prison for killing single mom Sonya Massey after she called 911 for help, has died, according to his attorney.

His defense attorney, Daniel Fultz, confirmed to The Post that Grayson, 32, died early Sunday. The former deputy had been diagnosed with colon cancer before the 2024 shooting, and in January, his attorney noted that his cancer had advanced to his liver and lungs.

A three-member Illinois Prisoner Review Board voted unanimously in July to deny Grayson’s application for an early medical release. Fultz was unable to comment on whether Grayson’s death was related to his cancer diagnosis. He was six months into his 20-year second-degree murder sentence for fatally shooting Massey in her Springfield, Illinois, home on July 6, 2024 after she called 911 about a possible prowler.

Karma is so beautiful to watch sometimes. RIP Sonya Massey.

White, Liberal Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson Declares a 'Transfemicide' Crisis, Ignores Hundreds of Black Deaths

NYPost.com:

Chicago, Chicago, that toddling town: Or it was some time ago when Frank Sinatra sang about it. Now it’s in the throes of something called a “Transfemicide State of Emergency,” according to Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, with no time for a little toddling around the dance floor.

Posting to his X account, Johnson announced in all apparent seriousness: “Since declaring a Transfemicide State of Emergency, our administration has strengthened the City’s capacity to support LGBTQ+ Chicagoans.”

The city, he continued, is “centering the voices and lived experiences of trans Chicagoans to chart a path toward a safer, more connected city.”

The level of indoctrinated one has to be to co-opt a term like 'Transfemicide', a word created by white, liberal activists who claim that there's an 'epidemic' of "trans women' are being murdered (there isn't, as only one was actually murdered in the past year in Chicago), all the while turning a blind eye to the hundreds of black men murdered every year in Chicago, is crazy.

Former Illinois Sheriff’s Deputy Sean Grayson Sentenced to 20 Years for Murder of Sonya Massey

RollingStone.com:

Former Illinois Sheriff’s Deputy Sean Grayson was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the murder of Sonya Massey. Grayson fatally shot Massey in her home in 2024 after she called 911 to report a suspected intruder in her Springfield home.

Grayson was convicted in October of second-degree murder. During his sentencing on Thursday, Grayson, who is white, said he made “terrible decisions” the night he killed Massey, a Black mother of two, and apologized in court for her death. “I was very unprofessional that night,” Grayson said via NBC News. “She didn’t deserve to be yelled and cussed at and called names. Nobody deserves that.”

Grayson was given the maximum penalty, with Judge Ryan Cadigan of the 7th Judicial Circuit Court of Illinois saying, “that bit of unreasonable rage needs to be deterred.” Judge Cadigan also denied the defense’s motion for a new trial, which they filed in November. After serving 20 years, Grayson will be under supervised probation for two years.

In my opinion, 20 years isn’t enough. Grayson should have been convicted of first-degree murder in the first place and sentenced to life without parole: that’s how callous and evil his actions were the night he killed Sonya Massey in her own home. But what I also find striking is the relative lack of national coverage and outrage surrounding this case, especially from many prominent voices on the Left. Given that it involves a racist, white police officer killing an unarmed Black woman, it seems like the kind of case that would once have sparked wall-to-wall attention and activism. Which raises some questions for me: Has the urgency around police brutality faded over the years? Is there a leadership vacuum in black activist spaces? Or has political focus shifted so heavily toward national electoral battles and partisan fights that cases like this don’t receive the same sustained attention? It’s something worth thinking about.

Sean Grayson Found Guilty of Murder in the Death of Sonya Massey

NBCNews.com:

Sean Grayson, a former Illinois sheriff’s deputy, was convicted Wednesday of second-degree murder in the 2024 death of Sonya Massey, a Black mother of two who had called 911 about a possible prowler.

Grayson was charged with first-degree murder, but jury instructions included the option to convict him of the lesser charge of second-degree murder. Jurors deliberated for almost 12 hours after closing arguments ended late Tuesday morning. Grayson’s family cried and held hands as the verdict was read. Outside the courthouse, protesters celebrated the guilty verdict and chanted, "I rebuke you in the name of Jesus."

Attorneys Ben Crump and Antonio Romanucci, who represented her family in a $10 million civil settlement, said that they believe Grayson’s actions warranted a first-degree murder conviction but that it was "still a measure of justice for Sonya Massey."

A partial victory if you ask me as Grayson should've been found guilty on 1st degree murder, not 2nd. Massey was never a threat to that cop's life. Dumb ass just didn't know what 'rebuke' meant, the word triggered him and as he promised he'd do beforehand, he shot her to death in the face on her kitchen floor. Then too, with all the trouble Grayson had been in prior to that day, he shouldn't have been a cop, much less in Massey's home to begin with. But that's on the state of Illinois because a corner was cut in the hiring process to fill a spot. Now we wait for Grayson to get sentenced and he better get the max as anything less is an injustice to Sonya Massey's life.

Opening Statements Begin in Trial of Former Illinois Deputy Accused of Killing Sonya Massey

Lawyers gave their opening statements to a jury at the Peoria County Courthouse on Wednesday morning, officially kicking off the trial of a former Illinois deputy accused of fatally shooting Sonya Massey.

Sean Grayson, 31, shot Massey, a 36-year-old Black mother of two, in June 2024 after she called authorities to her Springfield home about a possible prowler. The former Sangamon County sheriff’s deputy, who is white, said in a report written after the incident that he feared bodily harm because Massey was holding a pot of boiling water and said, “I rebuke you in the name of Jesus.”

Nearly two weeks later, Grayson was fired and charged with first-degree murder, one count of aggravated battery and one count of official misconduct. He pleaded not guilty and was held in jail pending trial.

First of all, Sean Grayson had no business being in Sonya Massey’s house to begin with. He had a history of trouble in law enforcement, having been disciplined for misconduct on the job and bouncing between multiple positions in just a few years-—a major red flag if there ever was one. He also didn’t have his body camera on during the incident (another erd flag) and we only got to see a video of the incidnet because his partner's badge cam was on. Plus, when he told Massey to turn off the stove where water was boiling, she had already shown signs of mental illness, something a trained police officer should be aware of. I’m also convinced that Grayson didn’t even understand what the word “rebuke” meant, and instead took it as a threat. That misunderstanding seemed to trigger him, leading to his outburst—yelling that he’d “shoot her in the face” if she didn’t put the pot down. At that point, Massey was as good as gone. What’s worse, after shooting her, Grayson showed a shocking indifference to life when his partner tried to render aid and he told him not to bother because she was “dead anyway.” Bottom line: Sean Grayson murdered Sonya Massey, the facts are all on video. He deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison, and the city of Springfield should also be held accountable for hiring Grayson in the first place.
