The director of US National Intelligence (DNI) has released evidence that her office says shows "longstanding" United States government funding for more than 120 biolabs in over 30 countries where research on biological pathogens, some dangerous, is conducted. "These biolabs include labs in Ukraine, which may be at risk of compromise due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war," the DNI's office said in a statement on June 12.
"For example, the Intelligence Community previously warned that a US-funded biolab in Ukraine likely housed dangerous pathogens and remained vulnerable to longstanding threats of Russian attack, seizure, or damage," it added.
The unusual move by Tulsi Gabbard came just days before her departure as DNI, who runs an intergovernmental office set up to coordinate information sharing among the sprawling US intelligence community. It wasn't immediately clear why Gabbard was releasing the information. Nor was it clear that it contained anything new or revelatory.
If this is true then it's another remarkable job by Gabbard to expose Joe Biden's nefarious connection to Ukraine, which is why liberals are so outraged about this news. Then too is the fact that it was the Biden administration that forcefully denied Russian claims of biowarfare labs in Ukraine back in 2022. Of course, it was Biden who played a central role in U.S.-Ukraine relations going back to his days as vice president, making multiple trips to Kyiv and leading efforts to promote democratic reforms, including pressuring Ukraine to remove prosecutor Viktor Shokin, whom the U.S. and its allies viewed as ineffective and corrupt. And as president, Biden strongly backed Ukraine following Russia’s invasion, providing more than $100 billion in military and humanitarian aid, visiting Kyiv in 2023, and signing a long-term security agreement in 2024. His Ukraine policy also became politically controversial because his son Hunter Biden served on the board of Burisma Holdings, which led to allegations that Biden sought Shokin’s removal to protect the company, an accusation Biden and his supporters have denied. That said, it's a real shame that Gabbard is about to leave her DNI position.
