California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a prospective 2028 presidential contender, is beginning to address one of his clearest national political vulnerabilities: California’s COVID-19 record.
During a fly-fishing interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Newsom called pandemic-era beach closures “insane, in hindsight,” said major school districts waited too long to reopen and again described his 2020 French Laundry dinner as “boneheaded.” The admissions are notable because Newsom led California through one of the country’s earliest and most aggressive pandemic responses, beginning with the nation’s first statewide stay-at-home order on March 19, 2020.
Newsom singled out Los Angeles schools, saying that many districts reopened earlier but “L.A. refused.” That account places much of the responsibility on local officials, though reopening decisions also reflected state health rules, county conditions and negotiations between districts and employee unions. Beach restrictions were similarly divided among state and local authorities: California limited access to state beaches, Los Angeles County imposed its own closure, and Newsom temporarily closed Orange County beaches.
You really can't hate the propagandist, mainstream media enough and leave it to CNN's smug, lead anchor Jake Tapper to give you yet another reason why. Yeah Tapper, the same tool who ignored Joe Biden's lack of mental acuity for 4 years, then had tha gall to write a book about it after Trump won the election in '24, is back to being the a-hole everyone outside of CNN knows him to be. Recently going fly-fishing and conducting a cushy interview with far-Left California Governor (and potential Democrat canidiate for President in 2028) Gavin Newson, where Tapper whitewashed any and all criticisms of him for how he handled Covid in his state. Indeed, Tapper called any critiques of Newsom's infamous (and hypocritical) Covid lockdown policies a 'cudgel to attack people'. Tapper, the same guy who had lunch with Anthony Fauci while Fauci was contributing to lockdown orders around the country, also gave Newsom a pass for school closings during Covid as well as the many deaths, bouts of isolation and drug addiction during the pandemic. But Jake Tapper wants you to believe that he's an objective journalist and not a piece of shit. Right. Funny too how the only thing to come out of this 'Fly-Fishing with Gavin Newson' episode from the msm is Newsom telling people that he won't run for President in '28 if Kamala Harris runs again for a 3rd time. Yeah, how noble of him.
